Who says "history is boring"?
On December 30, 1876, President Ulysses S. Grant signed Homestead Certificate # 1453 under Lincoln's Homestead Act of 1862. This document conveyed title to 160 acres of land near Frederic Wisconsin to A. Erickson and his wife Lena, Swedish immigrants and American "pioneers".
Four generations later, in this land of deep snow, bright skies, northern lights, bald eagles and nice people, the estate of F. Walter Erickson sold the remaining 40 acres of rolling land, with the gently flowing waters of "Lena Creek", to Walter's daughter, with the dream that she and her family, including her brothers, would continue to find this special place a sanctuary of "refuge, reflection and renewal".
In Memorium
This page is dedicated to the memory of Walter and Egda Erickson, whose lives modeled hard work, gentleness and joy to their children, grandchildren and the communities of Round Lake, Frederic and Grantsburg. The impactful Pioneer and Biblical values they passed on to their children today make Donna, Sue and this New York born Connecticut Yankee the luckiest in-laws in the world.
